PEN Board Endorses Measure L to Continue Library Services
The Board of Directors of the Pasadena Education Network (PEN) has voted to endorse the passage of Measure L, the Pasadena Public Library Services Continuation Measure. The library tax is not a new tax, but extends the existing tax for 15 years. The tax can only be used for library services, which the PEN Board agreed unanimously benefits all students in our community.
PEN believes that the public library plays a critical role in educating our children, and we know first-hand that many students benefit from the services that the library offers. In addition to using the library for resource materials and to discover engaging books, many students also utilize the library’s services for homework help, to gain computer access, and to get the support of professional librarians. Libraries offer children and teens a safe place to study, and give preschool students an opportunity to develop a love of learning through its storytimes and events. They also provide teachers with resources for their classrooms as well as field trips.
We believe that our public library is an important resource for our students, families, and schools. We believe that they must remain open throughout our community so all children have access to the resources they need to be successful in school. We urge you to vote YES on Measure L on November 8, and extend the library tax.
