Get Involved with PUSD

One of PEN’s core beliefs is that parent and community engagement is essential to building strong schools so all children can reach their potential. During the 2010-2011 school year, PUSD completed a strategic plan.  PEN participated in this process, and was instrumental in the district’s decision to include parent engagement as one of the priorities.

Since parent engagement has a direct impact on student academic success, we encourage all parents to get involved with their school community and/or the district. (See a short slideshow on the myriad ways PEN parents make a difference at PUSD schools every day!) Parents can get the information they need to become involved through our Parents As Leaders training , resources, and when they connect with other parents.

Another way parents can get involved is by participating in the PUSD’s Parent Advisory Groups.
  • Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
  • School Site Council
  • English Learners Advisory Council
  • Community Advisory Council (Special Ed)
  • GATE Advisory Council
  • African American Advisory Council
  • Parent Engagement Action Team

Parents can contact the PUSD Welcome Center at (626) 396-3600 x88340 or visit their website  for information about volunteer opportunities, parent education, and student enrollment.

The Board of Education typically meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor Board Room at 351 S. Hudson Avenue, Pasadena. Each Board Member oversees specific district schools. You can contact Board members with questions and concerns, issues related to the schools they oversee, or if you’d just like to get to know them.

Beginning in March 2013, PUSD moved from at-large to sub-district elections for Board representatives. (To find your subdistrict, go to PUSD's School Locator and enter your address, then click on the "Other Layers" tab and check "Trustee Areas.") Pasadena Board of Education Sub-districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 elected representatives in March 2013; sub-districts 2, 4 and 6 will elect representatives in 2015. Incumbents Elizabeth Pomeroy (Sub-Dist 5), Scott Phelps (Sub-Dist 7) and Kim Kenne (Sub-Dist 1) were re-elected in March, and a new representative, Tyron Hampton, was elected to represent Sub-Dist. 3 in an April run-off election. Because Kim Kenne vacated her at-large seat to run for the District 1 seat, the Board will need to fill the vacant at-large seat (Seat 4) until the 2015 sub-district elections. The Board is accepting applications until May 10, 2013 – applications, details, and the timeline for this process can be found on the PUSD website.
