The Pasadena Education Network has a Board of Directors that governs our organization and is voted on by our members. Board positions are two-year terms that are staggered so we can ensure the continuity of the Board.
Directors elected for a term of office from May 2012 to May 2014:
Nury Arrivillaga (re-election)
Chris Brandow (re-election)
Amelia Chapman (re-election)
Emily Mencken (re-election)
Eric Valderhaug (new)
Brad Wheeler (new)
Our Board has financial and legal responsibility for the health and sustainability of PEN. The Board’s role also includes:
• Determining the goals for the organization
• Serving as the link between our members and PEN
• Setting policies that guide our Executive Director and align PEN to its mission
• Evaluating the Executive Director
Who Can Be a Board Member?
2/3 of the PEN Board must be a parent of a child in PUSD now or one who is eligible to attend PUSD when the child is older. The Board recently voted to extend membership so that up to 1/3 of the Board can represent the community at large.
Who Can Vote?
While anyone can be a member of PEN by filling out our membership application, according to our by-laws only the following members can vote in Board elections: (1) members who have a child enrolled in PUSD; (2) members who have a school-age child eligible to be enrolled in PUSD even if they are not currently attending a PUSD school; and (3) members who have a child that would be eligible to attend PUSD if the child were older. If there are two adult members in your household, they are both eligible to vote as long as they both are named in your membership application.
How Do I Vote?
Elections are held each year in May. Voting members have an opportunity to vote by mail, email, or in person at our Annual Member Meeting. Voting members who choose not to cast a ballot vote automatically by proxy.
